Established in 1961, Portakabin is an iconic brand leader in the modular building sector, supplying a wide range of markets across Europe with high quality, flexible and sustainable space solutions.

In an increasingly competitive market Portakabin had recognised the need to focus on their digital channel and improve lead generation from their website. Their website traffic was strong; converting site visitors to sales leads was the challenge.

Portakabin knew they needed a UX design specialist for this task and following a competitive pitch they enlisted Bolser to carry out a comprehensive UX Audit and recommend website enhancements to drive more quality leads.

The challenge

Increase quality website leads by improving navigation and UX

The key challenge with this project was to understand the buying process and how customers were using the site, so we could identify the issues and make changes to help convert more site visitors. Detailed user research and stakeholder engagement would be required, together with testing to validate our proposed design changes.

What we did

Research based website enhancements validated by A/B testing

Our experienced UX project team used our tried and tested process to ensure a successful outcome, which included:

  • Consultation with key stakeholders to gather Blog, align objectives, and identify core challenges and opportunities through discovery workshops.
  • Use of advanced analytics and heatmapping tools to understand user behaviour and identify issues.
  • Benchmarking against competitors, industry standards and design best practices.
  • Detailed user research to gather direct feedback, develop user personas, and create customer journey maps.
  • Prioritising improvements and designing alternative solutions on key landing pages for assessment through A/B testing.
  • Analysing test results and incorporating successful changes into an implementation plan.

Results

Significant Increases in Engagement & Conversion

We were tasked with recommending website changes to drive more sales leads. Our comprehensive, structured approach certainly achieved this with A/B testing showing significant increases in engagement and conversion:

  • 14% increase in leads
  • 11% increase in brochure downloads
  • 71% increase in click-through rates (CTR) on product pages

Our recommendations are now being implemented on the live site and we look forward to seeing some fantastic results for Portakabin.
